photography workshops

As many former students have shown a desire to continue their photography education with us, I have designed a series of slightly more advanced on-day courses and called them workshops.

To ensure all students get enough one to one tuition, I have limited the number of students on each workshop.

These workshops are for those who have attended our basic course and those of you who have a good understanding of how to operate your cameras in the manual mode.

They are all one-day events and run from 9.30am to 5pm. We will provide a good lunch at approximately 12.30am. Please visit course dates and status to find workshop dates for 2010.

computer workshop

This workshop will be limited to six students and the cost per student will be £295.00 inclusive lunch and VAT. The workshop will take place at my Hungerford studio, see our location for details

It is important that students have their own laptops but not essential. It is also important that we discuss at the time of booking what camera and what computer software you use.

You will need to bring your camera, computer, all manuals and all software provided with both camera and computer.

During this workshop we will cover the following subjects:-

  • Setting your camera up correctly.
  • File formats such as Jpgs, Tiffs and Raw files.
  • Downloading images from camera to computer.
  • Processing Raw images and saving as Jpgs or Tiffs.
  • Storage and retrieval of you saved images.
  • Use of external hard drives and back ups.
  • Preparation of images for e-mail or printing.
  • Resizing, cleaning and cropping images.
  • Use of Canon software, Zoombrowser, AdobePhotoshop, and Lightroom.
  • Minor manipulation and retouching techniques.
  • On-line printers such as Photobox.

portrait photography workshop

This workshop will be limited to seven students and the cost per student will be £275.00 inclusive lunch and VAT. The workshop will take place at my home in Hampshire and my studio in Hungerford, see our location for details.

It is important that students bring outside clothing and Wellington boots. Please also ensure you bring all your camera equipment to include software and manuals. You should also bring a flashgun and additional lenses, if you have them.

The ideal camera for this course is a 35mm SLR camera either film or digital. These cameras normally have interchangeable lenses although extra lenses are not necessarily a requirement for this course. Compact camera owners will also gain a lot from the technique side of the course but I have to say quite a lot of our time of on the settings of the SLR, Digital and Film cameras.

During this workshop we will cover the following topics:-

  • Equipment required.
  • Revision on camera settings for portrait photography.
  • Studio portrait photography. Lighting, backgrounds and positioning.
  • Use of natural light for inside portraiture.
  • Use of artificial light for inside photography.
  • Advanced portraiture on location in garden.
  • Basic details for enhancing and preparation of portrait images on the computer.
